Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver (BGCMD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Erin Porteous as its new Chief Executive Officer. Porteous, who currently serves as Chief Development Officer, will assume her new role on October 1, 2016.
“Erin has been an energetic and effective leader at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver for more than a decade,” said Laurie Korneffel, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “Her deep experience and commitment to serving low-income youth and developing strong community partnerships are just a few of her many outstanding qualities that make her the ideal candidate to lead our organization and advance our mission.”
Porteous joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver in 2006, and has been a vital part of the organization’s leadership, improving the scale and quality of its programs while exceeding its revenue goals.
Porteous is succeeding John Barry who will retire on September 30, 2016.
“We are grateful for John’s numerous contributions to BGCMD,” said Korneffel. “John steered the development and implementation of our five-year strategic plan, which was adopted in late 2014 and, under his leadership, we are well on our way to achieving its goals. John’s background in education and his experience creating effective after-school programming have strengthened our organization.”
Porteous and Barry have worked closely together over the past two years, and they will continue to do so during the next month to ensure a successful transfer of responsibilities.
“It’s been an honor to work at BGCMD and with the talented staff who are dedicated to positively impacting the whole child,” said CEO John Barry. “I will remain a staunch supporter of BGCMD and am looking forward to passing the baton to Erin and trying retirement again.”
“It is an honor to follow John as the next leader for Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver,” said Porteous. “Together, with the staff, the Board and all of our partners, we are making a difference for kids and families in our community. It is a privilege to continue the necessary and impactful work of one of the largest youth-serving organizations in the Denver area.”
