Through a $50,000 grant from Lowe’s, the Owen Boys & Girls Club transformed an underutilized space into a new mental health hub for the organization’s growing team of social workers, who are dedicated to mental and behavioral health programming across the entire organization. More than 10,000 youth served by Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver will benefit from the continued growth and development of mental health care programming, ensuring all youth are able to achieve their greatest potential.
The new space opened last week and was made possible through the Lowe’s and Boys & Girls Clubs of America Renovation Across the Nation grant, where 30 Clubs across the country received funding to create a more fun and safe environment for kids and teens. Author and philanthropist Dr. Lucille O’Neal spoke at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
During the opening celebration, Lowe’s hosted an immersion event to introduce Club members to skilled trades. The hands-on learning event was led by Lowe’s Heroes volunteers and local skilled trade professionals, who showcased the growing trade job market to Club members. This event provided Club members with an opportunity to explore skilled trades careers. Club members experienced hands-on training with tools and materials utilized to renovate their Club space.
