Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver Celebrate Hispanic & Latino Heritage Month
Members Find Belonging in Supportive Spaces
Denver, CO (September 11, 2023) - Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver is kicking off Hispanic & Latino Heritage Month with celebration and education, highlighting the rich diverse contributions of Hispanic culture to our community. With 62% of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver members identifying as Hispanic, we are excited to create opportunities to not only showcase the vibrant Hispanic culture of our kids and communities, but also to provide our Club members with opportunities for cultural enrichment and education. And as always, we are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where every child feels safe and seen in their identity.
September 15 to October 15, our 25 Clubs across Metro Denver are delivering a variety of exciting programs and hosting events focused on Hispanic culture. These are some of the activities and programs we have in store for this special month include:
- Culinary Adventures: Clubs will bring the flavors of different Hispanic cuisines to our members by partnering with local restaurants including Argentinean, Salvadorian, Honduran, and Mexican cuisine. Club members will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of dishes and explore the diverse culinary traditions of Hispanic communities.
- Movie Nights: Several Clubs will host movie nights featuring beloved Hispanic-themed films, including "Selena," "Coco," "Spy Kids," "The Book of Life," and "Yes Day." These screenings will provide a fun and entertaining way for our members to learn about modern-day Hispanic culture and history.
- Lotería Tournaments: Lotería, a traditional Mexican game similar to bingo, will be played at our Clubs, allowing kids to connect with a cherished cultural pastime while enjoying friendly competition.
- Celebrating Hispanic Icons: Club staff will highlight the achievements and contributions of Hispanic icons from various fields, such as art, music, sports, and science. Their goal is to inspire our Club members to dream big and believe in their own potential.
Hispanic & Latino Heritage Month is an opportunity for Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver to emphasize the importance of diversity and inclusion. Our commitment to creating a safe and welcoming space for all kids while celebrating their unique and beautiful backgrounds stands strong. Our celebrations of Hispanic & Latino Heritage Month not only honor the past but create thriving spaces for kids to build a brighter future where every kid has the opportunity to thrive.
