In 2011, the United Nations established the annual observance of International Day of the Girl. For me, this day has become a celebration of the strength of girls in our Clubs and worldwide, as well as a day to reflect on the challenges that continue. Each year, I am reminded of the importance of gender equality, education, health, and empowerment. It's a day for sharing stories, engaging policymakers, and raising awareness about the myriad challenges girls face worldwide.
When I think of the thousands of young women who walk through our Club doors every day, I am filled with pride and wonder. Every girl is unique. She has her own story, strengths, and aspirations. And while our girls come from a wide range of backgrounds, they all share a common thread: they are part of a community that aims to empower them and help them reach their greatest potential.
As CEO of this extraordinary organization, I'm privileged to have the opportunity to build relationships with girls who are creative, thoughtful, community-minded, resilient, ambitious, and brave. I see them grow up, tackle new challenges, and become the kind of leaders their Clubs, families, and communities need. While I wish that you could meet every one of them, I’ve started a tradition of introducing a few of our female Club members each year on International Day of the Girl. This year, I have four exceptional girls that I can’t wait to tell you about.
Allow me to introduce you to Xochitl, Lorena, Hannah, and Camila, whose stories will undoubtedly strike a chord within you.
These remarkable young women are a part of the diverse and inspiring community of Club members who motivate me daily. On this International Day of the Girl, I invite you to pause and reflect on the young women and girls in your own life who have made an indelible impact. Share their stories with others and collectively we can celebrate these remarkable young people who are already molding our world into a brighter place – for everyone.
I look to our future with hope knowing that girls like Xochitl, Lorena, Hannah, Camila, and so many others are the leaders of tomorrow.
