Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver Celebrates International Day of the Girl
Empowering the Female Leaders of Tomorrow
Denver, CO (October 10, 2023) – In 2011, the United Nations established the International Day of the Girl to recognize and celebrate the strength, resilience, and potential of girls and women around the world. This annual observance serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing challenges girls face while emphasizing the importance of gender equality, education, health, and empowerment. Today, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver joins this global celebration, reflecting on its commitment to nurturing and empowering the young girls who walk through its doors every day.
As an organization dedicated to providing a safe and supportive community for youth, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver takes pride in the diverse group of girls it serves. Each girl who enters the Club brings with her a unique story, strengths, and aspirations. Regardless of their backgrounds, they all share a common thread: the opportunity to be part of a community that empowers them to reach their fullest potential.
"Every day, I am filled with pride and wonder when I think of the thousands of young women who walk through our Club doors," says Erin Porteous, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. "Our girls are creative, thoughtful, community-minded, resilient, ambitious, and brave. I've had the privilege of witnessing them grow, tackle new challenges, and emerge as the leaders our Clubs, families, and communities need."
To mark this International Day of the Girl, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver continues its tradition of introducing a few of its exceptional female Club members. This year, CEO Erin Porteous is pleased to introduce Xochitl, Lorena, Hannah, and Camila, whose stories are bound to inspire:
These remarkable young women represent just a few of the many inspiring members of the Club, each contributing to the rich tapestry of talent and potential that Erin and the entire organization are privileged to witness.
On this International Day of the Girl, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver invites the community to pause and reflect on the young women and girls in their own lives who have made a lasting impact. By sharing their stories and celebrating their achievements, we can collectively work towards creating a brighter future for all.
"I look to our future with hope," Erin Porteous concludes, "knowing that girls like Xochitl, Lorena, Hannah, Camila, and countless others like them are the leaders of tomorrow."
