Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver Celebrates National Volunteer Week

Denver, CO - April 16, 2024 - Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver proudly honors National Volunteer Week by spotlighting the remarkable contributions of sewing instructor Sue King. For thirteen years, Ms. King has generously volunteered her time, expertise, and materials to teach Club members the art of sewing, fostering creativity and empowerment within the community. 

Ms. King, a volunteer at Lasley Elementary Boys & Girls Club, has been a guiding light for countless Club members, imparting practical sewing skills and invaluable life lessons. From simple projects like coin purses to more complex endeavors such as aprons, Ms. Sue tailors her teaching to accommodate kids of all ages and skill levels, ensuring each participant feels supported and encouraged. 

"Ms. Sue's commitment to our Club members is truly remarkable,” states Antonio Chavez, Club Director at Lasley Elementary Boys & Girls Club. “Her passion for teaching sewing goes beyond just the craft itself; she instills confidence and fosters a sense of belonging in every member she encounters." 

Ms. King's longstanding dedication to Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver is distinguished by her impactful contributions. Collaborating with fellow community leaders, Ms. King supported fundraising efforts to extend the reach of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver into Jefferson County. Beyond her work with the Clubs, Ms. King has served as a representative of Lakewood City Council Ward 3, sits on the Board of Directors for Alameda Connects, and holds the position of Emeritus Board Member for Ralston House, further demonstrating her deep commitment to community service and advocacy. 

Ms. King's passion and dedication for teaching and creating opportunities for Club members exemplify the spirit of volunteerism and community service. Reflecting on her volunteer journey, Ms. King shared, “I’ll keep doing it for as long as the kids want me to!”
