Club member Tashawn does a lot more than simply show up every day at Place Boys & Girls Club. Striving to make the most out of his Club experience, he serves as a mentor and leader for his peers and has exemplified how after-school hours spent in the Club can lead to a promising future. As the school year wraps up, Tashawn will graduate as the valedictorian of his class with a bright academic future ahead.
Tashawn was one of the first Club members to attend Place Boys & Girls Club when it opened in 2010. Over the course of the past five years Tashawn has utilized his Club member experience to not only enhance his academic and social spectrum, but also to help positively guide his peers. Through actively participating in the programs offered at the Club, including volunteer and peer leadership programs, it did not take long for Tashawn to take a leadership role at the Club. Many younger Club members turn to Tashawn as a mentor. His presence in the Club is constant, strong and warm. He is always willing to help others with homework or simply chat about life. As a result, many younger kids who admire Tashawn have begun to follow in his footsteps. He has encouraged more youth transitioning into their teenage years to stay involved in the Club and help others.
Tashawn’s unwavering commitment to the Club, community involvement and dedication to academic excellence have not gone unnoticed. Tashawn will graduate second in his class from George Washington High School and has been named class valedictorian. Additionally, Tashawn has been awarded the very prestigious Daniels Scholarship along with six other scholarships and recognitions.
After being accepted to numerous universities, Tashawn has decided to use his Daniels Scholarship to attend the University of Denver and study International Business at the Daniels College of Business. While he is excited to stay connected to the Denver community, Tashawn is also excited to possibly study abroad and expand his horizons.
