During the upcoming winter months, many of us are exposed to viruses and bacteria. We can get sick if we aren't prepared. Here are a few tips to keep your family healthy through this cold and flu season:
- Wash your hands often – Use soap and water, especially before eating and after being in public places
- Stay active – Go for walks or do fun activities to keep moving, this helps your body's immune system
- Eat healthy foods – Include fruits and vegetables into your meals
- Get plenty of sleep – Try to sleep 8-10 hours a night to help your body fight off illness
- Drink lots of water – Stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day, your goal is 64 ounces each day
- Limit sugary snacks – Because bacteria like sugar, don’t eat too many sweets, focus on healthier options
- Try not to share food or drinks – This helps stop the spread of germs
- Manage stress – Your body can fight off more diseases with less stress in your life
- Talk to a health care provider, like a doctor, about the vaccines – Vaccines can help keep you from getting sick
