Throughout the month of May, we are sharing activities, information, stories, and resources to support the mental health and well-being of our children and our families. This week’s activity is called the “Feel Good Collage”. It’s easy, fun, and something you can do at home together.
The “Feel Good Collage” activity combats negative thought patterns and boosts self-esteem by creating a physical space for kids to store words of affirmation, pictures of people and places that make them feel safe, and photos of things they love. This activity can help kids identify and focus on their strengths, promote positive self-talk, and challenge negative thoughts.
Create a Feel Good Collage
You can create a collage physically using paper, scissors, and photos, or it can be made virtually using an online or computer application like PowerPoint or Canva.
First, brainstorm all the people, places, and things in life that make you feel safe and loved. Find photos or photo representations of those things. Add them to your collage.
Next think about all the things in your life that make you feel good. It could be sports, schools, church, hobbies, favorite foods, or favorite activities. Find photos or photo representations of those things. Add them to your collage.
Then, write down ten positive qualities, cut them out, and add them to the collage. on a piece of paper and place it in the folder. Finally, think back to a time when someone in your life recognized your talents or expressed their appreciation for you. Write down those experiences or words and add them to the collage.
Once your collage is complete, hang it up in a place that you can see every day as a reminder of all the things in your life that help you feel good!
