We are delighted to shine a spotlight on Sierra Perez, one of our Club Directors! Sierra's journey with Boys & Girls Club of Metro Denver began about three years ago, as a Youth Development Specialist at Montview Boys & Girls Club. Over the years, Sierra has seamlessly transitioned through various roles, serving as an Athletics Specialist, Cultural Arts Specialist, and Program Manager before assuming her current position as Club Director.
In each capacity, she has cultivated a safe and welcoming space for members, offering engaging programming rooted in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles. Take a look at a few DEI programming events held at Crawford Boys & Girls Club from the past school year:
Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Christmas – Club members immersed themselves in the festive spirit by creating clay menorahs and learning about their significance. To explore Kwanzaa and its rich cultural traditions, members watched the inspiring movie “KT and Me.” The holiday celebrations wrapped up with members joyfully building their own gingerbread houses, adorned with candy and holiday cheer.
Hispanic & Latino Heritage Month – Club members embarked on an exciting cultural journey, traveling from room to room within the Club, each space representing a different Latin country. With passports in hand, they visited vibrant destinations like Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela. Each room offered unique activities and delicious foods, such as empanadas and tamales, highlighting the central role of food in Hispanic & Latin culture.
Through DEI initiatives, members not only explore and celebrate their own heritage but also gain insights into their peers' cultures, fostering a deeper sense of pride and understanding within the Club community. Sierra's unwavering dedication to DEI programming has been instrumental in nurturing an inclusive environment where every member feels safe, valued, and empowered.
Sierra is dedicated to fostering unique and meaningful relationships with every member who walks through the doors of Crawford Boys & Girls Club. Through her leadership and passion, she continues to inspire and uplift the next generation, one relationship at a time.
