Gerardo Abad-Garcia
Interim Club Director/Program Manager at Tennyson Knolls Boys & Girls Club
Gerardo’s journey with Boys & Girls Clubs began in second grade when he attended his local Club. Though his time as a young member was short, his connection to the Club’s mission was rekindled as an adult. In the fall of 2019, driven by a desire for meaningful, purpose-driven work, Gerardo joined Boys & Girls Clubs of Indiana as a Youth Development Specialist before moving to Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.
Over the past three years, Gerardo has excelled in multiple roles within Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. He started as the Athletics Specialist at Hidden Lake Boys & Girls Club and then served as the Program Manager role at CSLA Boys & Girls Club before transitioning to Tennyson Knolls Boys & Girls Club as Program Manager. Today, he serves as the Interim Club Director at Tennyson Knolls, where his leadership and passion shine through daily.
For Gerardo, the most rewarding part of working at Boys & Girls Clubs is the daily interactions with kids, families, and colleagues. "The kids we work with teach us so much, whether they realize it or not," he shares.
Gerardo values the opportunity to amplify kids' voices and ensures that Club members are at the heart of every program he plans. “If they want something to happen at the Club, I do my best to make it a reality,” he said. At Tennyson Knolls Boys & Girls Club, members are developing their talents as future chefs and volleyball stars—two of their favorite activities. Gerardo has prioritized these interests by incorporating regular cooking classes into Club programming and bringing in a volleyball instructor to help members sharpen their skills. Looking ahead, many members have expressed excitement about gymnastics and cheerleading. Staying true to his commitment, Gerardo is already taking steps to introduce these activities to the Club. This dedication reflects his leadership style and his passion for empowering youth and strengthening the community he serves.
Gerardo acknowledges that the success of Tennyson Knolls Boys & Girls Club is a collective effort. He expressed gratitude to the leadership and faculty at Tennyson Knolls Preparatory School for their partnership. "They have welcomed us into their community and continue to work alongside us to make an impact," he shared. Gerardo also credits the Tennyson Knolls Boys & Girls Club team for their shared dedication to creating a safe and nurturing environment where Club members can learn, grow, and thrive.
